Softonic review

A secured web browser with two-factor authentication

If you’re working for the government or any high-risk job, obviously one of the things you’re going to be most concerned about is security. Sub Rosa is a security app developed by Thursby that allows users to view encrypted emails and browse the web securely using a two-factor CAC/PIV authentication method. Its authentication method involves installing a card reader that would allow the app to authenticate using US Government CAC or PIV smart cards instead of usernames and passwords. Encrypted emails can also be viewed in an environment similar to a native client instead of having to struggle with a browser. For anyone in the US Government who’s concerned about security, Sub Rosa might be a good app to check out.

PROS

  • Can view encrypted emails
  • Emails are presented like a native client
  • Simple interface
  • Comes with an extensive user guide

CONS

  • Doesn’t work all the time
  • Performance may be affected by bandwidth
  • Must use bundled card reader if not using Pro
  • No notifications
